California CCW Live-Fire Qualification
This live-fire qualification is the required in-person component for students completing their classroom training through our Online CCW Course. To complete your initial or renewal CCW requirement, you must successfully pass a live-fire qualification with each firearm listed on your CCW permit.
This qualification is valid for both residents and non-residents of California.
Important Notice on Agency Acceptance
California CCW issuing authorities set their own training provider policies, and not all agencies accept online or blended classroom training for California residents.
Currently, our online CCW course and accompanying live-fire qualification are approved for residents and non-residents applying to the following law enforcement agencies:
- Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office
- Yolo County Sheriff’s Office
(Note: Agencies that do not maintain a restricted vendor list may also accept this training. It is your responsibility to confirm acceptance with your issuing authority prior to registering if you are applying through another agency.)

Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if I fail the live-fire qualification?
If you do not pass your issuing agency’s required course of fire on your first attempt, your instructor will provide feedback and, time permitting, allow a re-test during the session. If additional remediation is required, you may need to schedule a follow-up qualification session.
Can I qualify with multiple handguns during the same session?
Yes. You can qualify with as many firearms as your issuing agency allows on your permit. Please ensure you bring the required ammunition (at least 50 rounds per gun), target magazines/speed loaders, and gear for each firearm you intend to list.
Do I have to qualify with every handgun that will be listed on my CCW permit?
Yes. California law requires you to demonstrate proficiency with each firearm listed on your CCW permit. Only firearms that you bring and successfully qualify with during your session will be listed on your official completion certificate.
What happens if one of my firearms experiences a mechanical issue or breaks during qualification?
Instructors are required to verify that all firearms operate safely. If a firearm experiences a mechanical failure or is deemed inoperable during the session, it cannot be included on your qualification certificate. You can still complete qualification with your remaining operational firearms and schedule a separate session for the repaired firearm later.
Please note: Adding a firearm at a later date will require a separate CCW modification qualification rather than the standard course qualification associated with your online class.
What if my issuing agency isn't Sacramento or Yolo Sheriff?
If you are applying to an agency other than Sacramento or Yolo County Sheriff, you must contact your issuing authority before registering to confirm they accept online/blended classroom training from an outside provider. Registration fees for range sessions are non-refundable if your agency rejects online classroom hours.
Does this fee cover my entire CCW class?
No. This registration fee strictly covers the range access, targets, and instructor evaluation for the live-fire qualification portion. Classroom access for the online portion is purchased separately.
What happens if it rains or weather is bad?
Qualifications proceed rain or shine unless extreme weather creates unsafe range conditions. If a session must be rescheduled due to unsafe weather or range closures, you will be notified via email/text and moved to the next available date at no extra charge.
